Not very Vegas like. Seems like those screens could be from Fallout 3 and people wouldn't notice.

Well they did blow up everywhere and there was loads of sand there to start with. Only so much you can do with sand and explosions. Although saying that, it's obvious that only super mutants in Vegas wear wigs and silly glasses. Which I'm not happy about, because it looks stupid. Super mutants are supposed to look scary, Dame Edna is not scary, not once you get past a certain age anyway.

But Vegas wasn't hit that hard by the bombs, as seen in the trailer as the city is looking pretty good. So presumably Vegas will look pretty different (visual style wise) to DC.

There is a vast desert surrounding the city dude.

This is not DLC. The game will go outside of New Vegas.

In an exclusive first look at Fallout New Vegas, CVG sister mag PSM3 reveals that developer Obsidian has taken dialogue and scripting up a notch in the sequel to Fallout 3.

Lead producer of Fallout New Vegas, Larry Liberty said: "We had to modify the dialogue engine from Fallout 3 to include the types of dialogue and options that we wanted.

"We want real, memorable characters. I think it helps you to remember parts of the world you'd otherwise forget."

The mag reported that it was 'apparent that Obsidian are much more comfortable behind the keyboard than the team that made Fallout 3 and, before that, Oblivion. The scripting is wittier, the characters more distinct.'

I know some folk keep knocking Fallout 3 for it's writing, but I never had a problem with it. Thought for the most it was nicely done, relatively down to earth and served it's purpose. No idea how New Vegas will play out, just hope they don't go too wacky. Grim is good. Grim is cheerful.

I adored Fallout 3; found it to be intensely atmospheric and addictive, my only qualm with it is the same qualm I have with all Bethesda games...the interraction screen...there has to be a better way to talk to NPC's without them standing, ram-rod stiff and unblinking...kinda breaks flow.

but that's only a minor thing...looking forward to this bad boy :D.

I think its great that they base these games in actual real places, not sure how accurate they are but going around Washington DC and moving thru the underground was great, i had hoped they would base this game in New York across all 5 boroughs.

Fallout 3 was definitely the most 'serious' of the Fallout games thus far, but I thought the writing was pretty good.

I don't mind a bit more humour creeping back into the series, as in the first two games, but the tone should always stay the rights side of depressingly bleak. I don't think Obsidian will mess this up but the transvestite super-mutant has me a little worried...

100% agreed with all of that.

I found the writing to be pretty good on Fallout 3 and I can remember loads of characters form the game, even random people had their own uniqueness about them.

And yes, grim is good. grim makes me happy.

As expected the game looks and plays similarly to Fallout 3, although skill levels will now have a greater affect on conversation choices and there's a new reputation and karma system.

There's also a "hardcore mode" where you need to keep drinking water, ammo has weight and healing isn't instant.

Sounds good - Hardcore mode sounds awesome! :D That'll be my choice mode 8)

I wonder how large the playing area will be in this game, Las Vegas is situated at the southern tip of Nevada and very close to California & Arizona, The Hoover Dam & Grand Canyon is to the east, and then there's Lake Mead

From the first trailer it looks as if the guy pictured is at the California-Nevada state border looking towards the city.
