I would like Streets of Gotham for a subtitle ... but anyways it looks like the next Batman game might have co-op. imdb.com has Robin listed with Vincent Martella as the voice actor. Also imdb.com has Two-Face listed with Bruce Greenwood as voice actor.

How can you tell the game will suck when they haven't really announced anything at all? And going by the first Batman AA game I'd argue the game has more chance of being good than bad.

Kevin Conroy -– the official voice of Batman, a well known fact by every Batman fan — has revealed a few details about the sequel to the critically acclaimed and award winning Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Gamerant reports that while speaking at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, Conroy was asked about a possible release date for Arkham Asylum 2 by an audience member, to which he replied: “[We] just recorded the primary tracks two weeks ago. But now it goes to the artist. I know we’re doing a second batch of recording in August, so I think probably they are hoping to have it out by Christmas. That’s really (tight?), I don’t know, probably closer to spring.”

Also in Arkham Asylum 2 news, two voice actors have revealed their roles in the upcoming title.

Actress Stana Katic tweeted: “Just recorded a character voice on the next Batman video game. Never did that before. Helpful hint: plenty of water and pineapple slices.”

She then tweeted again shortly after: “For those who were asking: I’m voicing Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Ra al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson in “Batman Begins”)”

The tweets have since been removed, so I guess she wasn’t supposed to reveal that yet. Oops.

That didn’t stop another actor from revealing that he’s been cast as Mr. Freeze though. In an interview on the Geekcastradio podcast, actor Maurice LaMarche said, “Video games is hard work, I’ll say that. I’ve only done a handful, and I’m very lucky right now, I’m about to go in and do Mr. Freeze for Arkham Asylum 2.”

While Mr. Freeze was only referenced in the original title in one of the Riddler’s challenges, it’s clear he’s set to make a proper appearance in the sequel.

When asked to give a taster of what Mr. Freeze will sound like, LaMarche said: “To tell you the truth, I think, contractually, I can’t. I’ve got to keep it under wraps,” and then goes on to say, “Yeah, he’s out for blood right now because, err… I can’t tell you the situation but he’s actually somewhat a sympathetic character within the framework of the game.”

There's that Batman: The Brave and the Bold game coming out too, so Talia al Ghul might be in that game instead though.

Looks like Two-Face is as good as confirmed now too:
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/108/1084586p1.html

It seems Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 is somehow going to be even darker than the first game.

Conroy, who spoke during a panel during the Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo this past weekend, said the new game will have a similar tone to the animated movie Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker. "It's really, really dark," Conroy said of the game in relation to the film. "It involves a lot of the villains and it goes to that area - it's that dark."

During the same panel, Conroy let slip that the villain Two-Face would be in the game. "There's a very complicated cast," he said after acknowledging his mistake. "A lot of villains are in it. I'll just leave it at that!"

A senior UK retail source has told CVG that Warner is planning to hold back Batman Arkham Asylum 2's release date until 2011.

"We've been told that Warner has acted early to avoid releasing the game into a heavily congested pre-Christmas market," our source told CVG. "It wants to dominate the first quarter of 2011 instead, when it can get maximum retail space and mindshare amongst gamers."

When we enquired about the decision, a Warner rep told CVG: "We haven't announced a release date for the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum yet."

'mindshare'

I've not come across that bit of marketingese before, but it makes sense. If the only decent game out in the first quarter of 2011 is BM:AA2 then my mind won't be sharing it's thoughts over any other titles.

I'd guess there'll be lots of good games in Q1 again next year.

I hope it is pushed back to next year, as Rocksteady are not a big studio and getting another triple-A game out this year did seem like a bit of a stretch. Although like Mike says, I'm sure Q1 next year will be busy too, as publishers seem to be more keen on missing the pre-Christmas onslaught. We already know Gears 3 will be coming, and it's likely Killzone 3 will be around the same time too.

Arkham Asylum 2 is coming, but considering we know that it won't be taking place in Arkham Asylum itself that name would be pretty darn stupid. It would be like naming a game Alcatraz and then having it take place in San Francisco. Unneeded metaphor is unneeded, but we may now have some hints at what the game's name will be and what will be going on it. WB has registered a series of domains clearly related to the upcoming game.

You can read them all below and while most of them seem to be attempts to not give away the real name of the game others like "closearkhamcity.com" and "waringotham.com" really hint at the direction the game will be taken plot wise.

arkhamcity.com, batmanarkhamcity.com, batmanashesofgotham.com, batmanbrokenground.com, batmannewarkham.com, batmangranddelusion.com, batmanriseofarkham.com, batmansiegeofgotham.com, batmanstateofvillainy.com, cityofarkham.com, closearkhamcity.com, peopleforgotham.com, stopmayorsharp.com, waringothamcity.com & wheresbrucewayne.com

Well, Wheresbrucewayne and stopmayorsharp may point towards plot points but I would love Batman: Ashes of Gotham or State of Villainy as subtitles. They seem to give the right sort of feeling for a Batman game.

In other news, I had totally forgotten this game was coming, and now I'm all excited again :D
