GamesMaster could be back on TV in time for Q4, with a new series on a terrestrial channel.

The brand is in the process of being re-invigorated, having been acquired by Future late last year. Previously the firm simply published a magazine under licence from Double Act Films (the company owned by GamesMaster’s original producer, Jane Hewland) and was prevented from doing anything online or on-screen.

In the last few months, however, with the shackles off, Future has been talking to production companies, TV networks, publishers and even potential presenters. It is understood that one terrestrial channel has shown considerable interest and is already looking at an early evening slot.

New GamesMaster would retain some of the elements of the original format, but will be a different proposition, focusing on big new releases, upping the production values, and benefiting from cross-promotion across the Future network.

The presenter slot is the subject of fevered discussion within Future (and elsewhere). MCV understands that a few approaches have been made, but a replacement for Dominik Diamond is yet to be appointed. If anyone’s wondering, yes, Diamond himself has been ruled out.

There will be multiple bundles, including a bundle that includes a PlayStation 3 console, the PlayStation Move and the PlayStation Eye. Furthermore, the company will launch a starter pack, which includes a PlayStation Move, a PlayStation Eye and [a demo disc] all for under $100.

Sub-$100?! Jesus Christ, there's gonna need to drop the price a lot more than that to break the mainsteam. I think most people would rather buy a couple of new games for that price.

I am willing to bet that this will be nowhere near as successful as the multi-million selling Guitar Hero games, although in its defence at least Move is likely to be compatible with more games than most peripheral-based music games are.

If Sony can market this anywhere near as well as Guitar Hero or even Rock Band and get their sort of market penetration I will be very impressed.

Some of the games seems to require two Move controllers though, one for each hand.

That is a good thing, as he now fulfils the role of 'Fat Rapist' rather than 'Good Presenter'.

One of my missions for Game Developers Conference 2010 was to get more information on the successor to the Nintendo DS. While nobody would tell me the name of the new handheld or the exact dimensions, I was able to extract some pretty cool tidbits on the “DS2″.

- The system has two screens, just like the DS, but they are bigger and higher resolution. the interesting part is that the gap between the two screens is negligible. Developers will be able to use them as one giant screen.

- The next Nintendo handheld has an accelerometer.

- The dev kit is similar in power to the GameCube. Developers that worked on GameCube or Wii games will find it easy to create with. The DS successor is rumored to use an Nvidia Tegra chip. The people familiar with the dev kit made it sound like there wasn’t much of a learning curve on the new system.

- The developers I spoke with will be finished with their games before the end of the year. The Nintendo DS is still going strong and the company could delay the next handheld’s release if it wanted to, but it looks like an E3 2010 announcement and a late 2010 release.

That’s all I have for now. Remember, none of this information came from Nintendo. It came from developers that claim to be working on the new system.

Some good news about the new DS. I might keep some money handy for when it comes out... how much was the original DS at launch out of interest?

Overheard at the Game Developers Conference: Insomniac Games has become a multiplatform developer. The company, best known for the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance franchises, is allegedly creating cross-platform software for both PS3 and Xbox 360, according to a trusted source who spoke with IGN under the condition of anonymity.

Insomniac Games has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with Sony, but remains an independent studio, which affords it the right to create games for any platform should it choose. The company is based in Burbank, California. Earlier this year, Insomniac Games expanded its resources when it opened a new studio in North Carolina.

We contacted Sony for comment but the company was unable to respond before publish time.

Insomniac Games' president Ted Price said only that the developer does not comment on rumors and speculation.

Hmmm we'll see what happens there. Ratchet and Sypro were great games but Resistance has been somewhat lacking.

I thought the single player was average while the online/co-op were good but not great.
