In 2008, Darrell Rodriguez left his job as EALA's COO and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to become the president of LucasArts.
Gamasutra recently got a chance to speak to Rodriguez
You guys licensed out Monkey Island to Telltale. Is that a process that you think is going to be something you'll continue to do, license out things like Monkey Island for other people to work on if you're not interested in continuing that IP?
DR: Well, we also do the Special Edition ourselves.
That's true.
DR: We did the Special Edition on XBLA and on iPhone, and it did tremendously well. And on PC, it's on Steam. It did tremendously well. We did that internally. We had a great partnership with Telltale, and we hope to do something in the future with them. They're phenomenal partners. They get it. Will we do stuff like that in the future? Yeah, I mean, I'll look at all opportunities.
I'm a huge fan of the adventure genre, adventure games and also the classic LucasArts titles, and whatever way we can get out there for our rabid fanbase.
Do you ever the possibility of bringing back any of the older IP or is it all moving forward for you?
DR: That's what we did with Monkey Island, right? We brought it back and we reimagined Monkey Island with the Special Edition. We're working with Telltale on the Tales Of series. So, we kind of are bringing it back a little bit.
Sure, but in general, but do you see your IP as an opportunity for you? How do you make those decisions?
DR: Absolutely. If you look on Steam, we're doing a number of interesting bundles on Steam, and we'll continue to do that sort of thing because the fans want it. If you look at the blogs as well as all the emails and all the letters that we get, we're going to do what they want.

Recruiting Meathook
When you come to recruit Meathook, after the governor is kidnapped. Meathook asks what they should do, Guybrush originally had another option…
Guybrush
“Screw ‘em. Let’s go loot the town.”
Meathook
“Okay.”
(screen fades to black)
Title card
“Two hours later…”
(Cut back to Meathook’s house)
Guybrush
“Well, that was fun.”
Meathook
“Yeah, but I didn’t get anything, did you?”
Guybrush
“Well, I got these breath mints.”
Meathook
“Well, what are we going to do now?”
Guybrush
“Hmm…”

Runaway: A Twist of Fate gets a flood of media, March/April release date in the UK
for those of you in the UK, the third game in the Runaway point-and-click adventure series is just arriving, with publisher Focus Home Interactive pinning March and April release dates on the PC/Nintendo DS title (respectively).
Brawsome is overjoyed to officially announce development of it’s first commercial length 2D point and click adventure– Jolly Rover.
Jolly Rover is a light-hearted swashbuckling 2D point and click adventure in a pirate setting. Containing a cast of 25 skilfully animated and voiced scurvy dogs, and over 60 beautifully rendered scenes, our game follows the short and stubby tail of young Gaius James Rover, across three wild and untamed tropical islands, as he attempts to fulfil his dream of starting a circus, hampered only by pirates, villains, voodoo, love and considerable lack of loot.
The game has been in development since late August 2009 and is slated for completion in July 2010, for digital distribution.
Telltale has been too busy with other projects like Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures and Tales of Monkey Island to update us on Sam & Max, but it looks like season three is coming soon.
Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse – Episode 1: The Penal Zone was just rated by the OFLC as a multi-platform game.
Premier videogame publisher Iceberg Interactive announces today that its new murder mystery adventure game Still Life 2 has gone gold and has entered manufacturing for its European launch. The long expected sequel has a UK release date of 19 February 2010.
Still Life 2 remains true to the spirit of its first installment and continues to allow playing and managing two characters bound by the same fate. Depending on whether you are playing Paloma Hernandez, the victim being taken by the "East Coast Killer", or Victoria McPherson, the FBI agent tracking him down, you can alternate between survival and investigation.
