FFVIII

So my favorite FF is up on the PSN, and I figured I'd start a tread so I can describe in excruciating detail just how well this game has aged, and how much I still love it. FFVII can **** off, this here is the real deal.

Now, 789 minutes remaining.. damn you psn. :(

This is the only Final Fantasy game I've ever really enjoyed, so I'm tempted to pick it up to play on the PSP.

How do the PS1 classics play on the PSP? I heard somewhere that they don't play in full screen, which sounds a bit naff...

You can adjust the screen size yourself to make it fill the screen. Only problem is that the nub is used for R2/L2 so you have to use the D-pad to move about all the time. If that's not a problem then PS1 games on the PSP are great. You can adjust it so that the nub moves you but then you have use it for menus as well which isn't a great idea.

Ahh...beautiful, looks like a forum I can settle into nicely.
Had I but a PS3, PSP or even a working 360, I too could revel in this great news.

Fantastic dialogue, a surprising and thoughtful plot that rivals any film or book ever constructed and can't-put-it-down gameplay qualify this game as a masterpiece.

I'm glad to hear of this, thanks for sharing :).

While you're on the subject how would i go about buying games from the U.S. PSN store?

Anyways when i saw this game on PSN store this morning it pretty much made my day so i've been in a good mood at work today. I'm currently on the train home now so as soon as i get home i'm getting this game. :D

Cheers Bob. I don't have a problem using the dpad on the PSP for PS1 games - I don't think we ever had an analog controller for the PSone (couldn't afford it!) so I played virtually every game in that gen with the dpad anyway! Plus I avoid using the PSP nub where possible due to the fact it constantly feels like it's about to break!

One more question - when you adjust the screen size to fill the screen, does it stretch the image much or does it look fine. Cheers in advance.

Nah, it looks fine. At least I think it does, I'm not exactly the most observant person when it comes to ratio and image quality.... and sound quality. Certainly doesn't impact on the game anyway so go for it. Even if it is one of the worst Final Fantasy games ever

What? I love FFVIII very much; I think it has good pacing, it's art style means it's aged a lot better (at least visually) than FFVII and the junction system means you can often avoid too much grinding if you use your head but it's story is awful. Riddled with plot holes (the best being the GF 'reveal' in Trabia), its characters are largely unlikeable and some of their motivations are largely suspect at best. It doesn't even suffer from a poor translation like most JRPGs, the story just whiffs of a cobbled together narrative or as if the lead writer lost his manuscript half way through and wrote the Ultimecia stuff off the top of his head when he was high. Everything up to the beginning of Disc 3 (except the Trabia GF silliness) is pretty great though. Galbadia storming Balamb is one of my favourite endings to a game ever. Just a pity it stretches out for 20 more hours.

Still, buy it but man, do not expect something that rivals any book.

In a bout of youthful exuberance i bought the box set (white memory card,t shirt etc.),fingers in your ears Papa,i hated the draw system and never got my head round the card game.
This is still the only F.F.that I've played that i have never completed, think i gave up on the third disc.
Yes yes i know go stand in the corner.

I gave up on the third disc as well. Wouldn't mind giving it another go, but all that "........" patter killed me stone dead.
