on my tv at least, PSone games from the american store play full screen but PAL games have black strips along the side

You can adjust the screen size yourself to make it fill the screen. Only problem is that the nub is used for R2/L2 so you have to use the D-pad to move about all the time. If that's not a problem then PS1 games on the PSP are great. You can adjust it so that the nub moves you but then you have use it for menus as well which isn't a great idea.

Nah, it looks fine. At least I think it does, I'm not exactly the most observant person when it comes to ratio and image quality.... and sound quality. Certainly doesn't impact on the game anyway so go for it. Even if it is one of the worst Final Fantasy games ever
Fantastic dialogue, a surprising and thoughtful plot that rivals any film or book ever constructed and can't-put-it-down gameplay qualify this game as a masterpiece.
