Pleasant Surprise!

Hello all newish here, joined a while ago but now back as I need to find people to talk to about how brilliant Mass Effect 2 is amongst others. Anyway going off subject already!.

When I first played Fallout 3 about 6 months ago, my wife walked into the room as I was being attacked by some Super Mutants and she commented "Oh what a surprise, another game shooting things!", so I said ok here play it until you leave the Vault and if you dont like it after that then fine. She started her own game and she is currently level 24 after 40+ hours!. Has anyone ever tried to or experienced anything like this with a "non-gamer"?.

No. Just a big old... no. I've tried but it's never worked out. The best I've managed was getting a girlfriend hooked on "Everybody's Golf" on the PSP and "Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!" on the DS. I do get a wee bit embarrassed that every time she walks in on me playing a game I do seem to be shooting someone in the face. Although Mass Effect 2 got this reasoned response- "Why bother talking to them when you're just going to end up shooting them anyway?"

Good point, I guess.

That would be worse though. "Hey honey, don't mind you, I'm just watching Commander Shepard here banging a tattooed biotic freak on a basement table. Games are cool. DON"T WALK IN FRONT OF THE SCREEN WHEN I'M PLAYING!"

Funnily enough, whilst playing Mass Effect 2 my wife commented that I would pursue my interest in Miranda as she is ''my type'' which she was right about!!. The thing that made Fallout 3 accesible for my wife was V.A.T.S. Which meant she didn't have to run around shooting all the time in a hurry.

My good lady normally sticks to the more casual type games, like Trials, Bomberman and Worms, but about a year ago I bought Fable II. I played about ten minutes before it crashed. The next day, I found out that my wife had booted it up whilst I was at work and logged about 8 hours. I haven't been able to play it to any depth because she gets rather possesive!
He who expects nothing is rarely disappointed.

my partner will only ever play mario kart or super monkey ball - brilliant games but they get old after a while. My partner did however sit glued to the tv screen when I played 'Skies of Arcadia' as got engrossed in the story :)

My other half is currently engrossed in Heavy Rain after watching me play the demo...I wouldn't mind but she bought it for her PS3 and won't let me play....
And, Aeris dies.

my other half is not interested in any games whatsoever.
