Resident Evil 6 Siege mode DLC revealed, PC version gets 'The Mercenaries: No Mercy' mode

Console DLC expansion coming in March - trailer: http://youtu.be/oPDPMnGS2VU

Capcom has made a duo of announcements for Resident Evil 6 players on consoles and those planning to grab the PC version in March.

For console players, Capcom has revealed a new 'Siege' mode, which will be released as a paid download content in March costing, 320 MS Points/$3.99/€3.99/£3.19.

Siege mode is an online multiplayer mode for two to six players. "Siege sees a lone AI-controlled rookie BSAA agent in trouble and in need of help," explains Capcom. "Players will split into two teams with one assuming control of enemy creatures who are trying to take down the rookie, while the other team selects playable characters from the main game and must keep him alive.

"Each game consists of two rounds with teams switching between the human and enemy roles. The human team wins a round if the BSAA agent survives, while the enemies win if they can defeat him."

For PC players awaiting the game's release on March 22, Capcom has announced the PC version will come with a new mode, 'The Mercenaries: No Mercy'. It's said to be a more challenging version of the existing 'Mercenaries' mode with "more enemies on screen than ever before", but also "the opportunity to rack up even higher combo scores".

The publisher will also release a free PC benchmark test in February, which will allow you see how Resi 6 will run on your rig ahead of its launch.

Here's a Siege mode trailer:

Almost 5 million copies sold and it's still a failure. Kind of says it all about current gen AAA gaming. Hopefully publishers will get a clue by RE6's example. More isn't always better.

In other news, Capcom are considering an open-world type idea for RE7. I guess they still don't understand where they went wrong with RE6 then. Off one bandwagon and onto another

edit: Wait actually, that's 5 million shipped, which is entirely different. That includes all those unsold, reduced copies sitting around on Gamestop shelves.

I'd not read about the RE7 idea. Sounds crap, can't imagine how they'd manage to do a RE game in an open world setting. Then again, isn't there already something like that... from a Japanese company... I think its called Dead Rising

That said I really wonder which direction Capcom will be taking the franchise in the next generation. 6 clearly hasn't met their targets (heck, RE5 still stands as the best selling entry in the franchise) and games aren't getting any cheaper to build. I can see why they would want to branch out to a larger audience and all but their gambit hasn't paid off in this instance. That and DmC hasn't performed as well as they'd expected either I wander whats next for Capcom? Totally a Megaman reboot

And I really need to get back and finish this game. I finished half the game and was dead set to do Leon's but then ended up playing through a few Yakuza games and have not been back to it since then. I'm still eager to play through the rest of it as I was most looking forward to the Leon part...

So I finally got back to this game yesterday, I downloaded the patch which allows you to play with the field of view and it makes it a different game at points, I can actually see when I'm aiming now! Insantly making action scenarios that much better...

So I finally got started on Leon's campaign, perhaps the one I've been looking forward to most due to the zombies and the first chapter did not disappoint. To me it felt like a classic RE game with a much better aiming mechanism.
The first bit of the chapter was admitedly slow to get going, building up the tension which was ok I guess, wish they would walk faster though  When the zombies did turn up things got fun, especially as you don't get all that much ammo really so I relied half on melee attacks and running until I managed to amass more ammo.
I loved the lighting in places, especially the subway which had the shadows of zombies lurching round the corner as you could hear them stumbling ever closer to you (and then getting hit by an oncoming train you narrowly avoid!). The parts in the city reminded me a tad of RE2 in places, tackling on the enemies that were in my path, the others I ignored or ran from where possible. It was a pretty tense atmosphere. The only falling point was the end shootout which got a bit messy at times if overwhelmed especially when the heavy hitting enemies started appearing.

All in all I really enjoyed it, pretty shocked at how much they packed into the first chapter as well. I can't see what some of the complaints about this bit were about, it really did feel just like a classic RE game with better combat which is the best of both worlds for me. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the scenario pans out now.

I wonder how much RE4's price has dropped to? That'd be the one to pick up in my opinion, still a cracking game all these years on and surprisingly lengthy (without really feeling it). RE4 consistantly takes me 20 hours to complete when I play it (discounting mercs time), likewise RE6 took me the same amount of time to clear (that's more to do with multiple campaigns and lengthy chapters.
RE5 was the odd one out, didn't take me anywhere near as long to clear, and can be raced through on subsequent replays (and worth doing so for the infinite rocket launcher!). RE5 has the best DLC though, the story based DLC was excellent in that. It and RE4 were also legit hard on the highest difficulty, RE6 doesn't feel any harder at all on professional compared to normal mode. Doesn't even really seem like you take all that much more damage either.

If you really are going to give it a go, its worth looking up the different moves you can do (rolls, evades, counters, quick shots etc.) as the games tutorial will teach you none of that. Also make sure you play with the field of view options so you aren't permanently zoomed into your characters back and can't see any of the enemies around you

20 hours on the first play through. It only takes about 8 hours without rushing on the subsequent plays - due to the fact you're so overpowered you can annihilate everything without any trepidation

Yeah but I rather not go down the overpowered route for my replays unless I'm trying for achievements or such as it kind of spoils the fun. I did that for RE5's subsequent playthroughs and it just wasn't as fun as my first time through, but at the same time it felt somewhat nessessary when playing on Professional and tackling certain areas to have infinite Magnum and Rockets else certain encounters/bosses would be insanely difficult (and I hate some of them in RE5!)

Dying with the flu so I thought I might get on with RE6. After spending 30 minutes getting blown up by invisible bombs it only made me feel worse.

Left 4 Dead 2 getting Resident Evil 6 treatment and vice versa

It’s official: Valve and Capcom are teaming up for a L4D2 and Resident Evil crossover of sorts.

The L4D2 cast will appear in Resident Evil 6′s “No Mercy” mode, exclusive to PC which will be released for free on April 5.

Each character comes equipped with a specific loadout created just for RE6 Mercenaries: No Mercy, and the Special Infected will be included as well.

This spring, the Lepotitsa, Napad and Ogroman will appear in Left 4 Dead 2, and currently, Valve is working on integrating them.

More through Capcom Unity.

Capcom has released a gameplay video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... QjmWBtagag - to show off the Left 4 Dead characters fighting off zombie hordes in Resident Evil 6.

As reported last week, Capcom and Valve have partnered up to deliver free crossover content for their respective zombie games as free downloads for PC players.

Characters from Left 4 Dead 2 - Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle - will make the jump to Resident Evil 6 for a shootout in the game's PC-exclusive 'The Mercenaries No Mercy' mode when the free DLC pack arrives on April 5.

L4D2 Special Infected, the Witch and a 'Mini Tank', will also make an appearance.

The first gameplay footage of this DLC is below, showing L4D2 characters in a battle for survival in a Resident Evil 6 setting.
