Surely that price for the UK console will rise? £270 for the new Playstation seems a tad to cheap in my opinion! I'm hoping it won't be £425 or whatever the PS3 was at launch over here but I can't see it being released under £300...

Though if it does, and it doesn't force always online etc. and has a decent launch line up I'd be grabbing one at launch for sure.

The PS4 will have several SKU's, bit like the Wii U, starting at £270 and uptown around £400 (for those who can afford it  )

Well heres hoping Amazon screw up again and list the most expensive SKU at a crazy cheap price. That's how I got my 32gig Wii U for £200 at launch

Well....I can't afford it as such, but I have credit cards

I hope it has the same kind of multimedia capabilities as the PS3 - be an easy sell to MrsCarlos if we can watch Blu-Rays and the iPlayer. Oh, and Rock Band.

Still not convinced if the Next Gen is something I want to dip into to be honest.

To me its not the console that generates my interest, its the games, If I see trailers that get me excited that's where im at. The console that's just the means to access the content, as long as its not digital only, then they can shove it.

My thoughts exactly.

I just wanna play Star Wars 1313, The Witcher 3, Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Half-Life 3 and MGS5.

I doubt many of them will be available in down-graded graphics on PS360/Wii U and I don't have a gaming PC.

I'm so hyped for next-gen its unbelievable, I'll pretty much pay anything for a PS4 and a 720, but would prefer the cost to be sub-£350.

EA on the fence about pre-owned; Next-gen not backwards compatible; Market will never be 100% digital

Publisher EA has admitted that it would in some ways like to see an end to pre-owned games, but has also admitted that the market could suffer were they to vanish.

That’s according to chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen, who Gamasutra reports told an audience at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco that retail is still very important to publishers.

"It's one of these classic double-edged swords,” he admitted. “In one way the used game business has been critical for the health of the retail channel, and having a healthy retail channel is an important thing for us. The business will probably never be 100 per cent digital.

“Bandwidths are a constraint, and will continue to be a constraint for many years to come, which hold back the ability to do full digital downloads of some games.

"So having a healthy retail channel out there like GameStop or Best Buy or others is important, and to the extent that used games is important to them, I think that's a positive.

"Would we like to sell everything at full price and not have a used game market? Sure. But I think the used game market's a little like any other kind of market where it creates liquidity. The fact is, that liquidity benefits us in some fashion. So if someone goes in and trades in a game, there's a good chance they're going to buy another one of our games. And so if there's a liquid market, I think that that's not a bad thing at all.”

The comments come in the wake of claims that the Next Xbox will utilise tech that blocks users from playing pre-owned games, although EA refused to be drawn on the factual accuracy of these claims.

"I can't really comment on where the next generation boxes are going to be relative to used games,” Jorgensen said. “I will say that the trend in the business is to have that always-on connectivity and connect with a customer, and to the extent that the software identifies a certain customer is going to create some issues going down the road in the used game market.

“But I do believe that the consumer likes it, and it's been good for the retail channel."

Jorgensen also said that he thinks it’s unlikely that either the Xbox 720 or the PS4 will be backwards compatible with existing software. And that, he argues, could lead to a slower uptake of next-gen machines.

"An important thing to remember is that next-gen consoles will most likely not be backwards compatible,” he predicted. “And if you [play] multiplayer on a game, you'll most likely not be able to play with someone on a different generation. And so if you're a FIFA player and, and the soccer season's starting in August, and all your friends are playing FIFA, you're going to want to be on the same box that they're on.

“So if they all go out and buy a gen-four box if it comes out at Christmas, then you'll most likely do it. If they all hold on and continue to play on third-generation, you'll probably not see that box purchase until after the soccer season's over.”

PS4 controller prototype image leaked - report

An image reportedly showing a prototype controller for Sony’s next-gen console has leaked onto the net.

Originally posted on Destructoid, the shot shows a controller designed similarly to Sony’s DualShock line – with influences clearly taken from the Vita handheld as well.

The controller includes some major alterations, carrying what looks to be a touchpad, a built in speaker, and an unidentified bar that glows. Minor differences include a modified D-pad, analog sticks, and rounded sides.

IGN sources claim the controller is real; though as an early prototype, it’s possible the final design could be vastly different.

Sony is widely believed to unveil the new PlayStation hardware at a promo event next Wednesday, we’ll see if its controller is also on display.

The plot thickens....

Saw that photo on Kotaku yesterday, looks like they've made a few improvements to the DualShock which is good but they've kept the analog sticks in the same place :(

I'm just hoping and praying they'll be more precise than the DualShock 3.

EDIT:

A different photo of the Prototype PS4 controller:

I would've liked to have seen something entirely new but I like the changes they've made and the additions - look forward to seeing how it all works on a demo :)

Not sure what I make of the pad. I've never had any problems with the original dual shock design so I'm glad they are keeping the same basic design but I'm not sure that touch pad thing will be any good for games. Prove me wrong Sony..
